Are AirBnB the way to go in Bangkok? I typically like staying in them when I travel because they give more space and some additional privacy. Thoughts anyone?

Air BnB have listings in Thailand, but be aware they are not subject to regulations like western countries. You don't have much recourse if something goes wrong (ie, completely different accommodation to what was posted, refunds, etc).

It is possible to rent condos if you are planning a longer duration of stay.

Ok. What hotel would you recommend for a week stay in Bangkok that is guest friendly?

Almost all hotels are guest friendly, meaning that they won't charge you for bringing a guest back to your room. Many hotels will require the guest to leave her ID card at the front desk, and will only return it to her once they verify that you are ok and nothing untoward has happened. This is a good safety measure to protect the guest from theft, being knocked out by drugs delivered by the pay for play lb (even reports of drugged lipbalm in one case). Of course this isn't common, but these instances have been reported in the past.

With her ID held, then it is easy to track her down in case something untoward occurred.

Basically it depends on what your budget is, 5 star, 4 star, 3 star hotel, and the location you choose. Most of the p4p lbs are around the Nana/Asoke area so choosing a hotel near those areas makes it easy especially if it is near the BTS Skytrain or underground Metro lines.
