Appealing to Local residents to unveil the Songthaew mystery to the rest of us who want to fly solo.

Found what could be a useful link as I always struggle with what goes where depending where I am at the time, ie from Beach road to Jomtien or from Buakhaow to Jomtien or whatever.

Please feel free to comment or make this more logical

Thanks in advance.

Got a feeling this is like a needle in a Haystack answer

I've seen this discussed on GG boards by expats and they don't really understand the routes. I've always wondered were the baht buses come from that turn south on Buakhao from Klang (coming from the east). They never have any passengers when they first turn on Buakhao.

A guy I know would not ride in a baht bus when he first came to Pattaya. I finally got him to tell me it was because he didn't know how to get the baht bus to stop. I explained about pushing the button and he was OK after that. :D

I am convinced they make it up as they go for the most part.    Just try and remember the one way systems and use that to your advantage.  i.e if your sat in La Bamba and want to go to Soi 8.  you walk up to 2nd road and not down to Beach Rd.   From 2nd road - all will go past soi 8.   From beach road, some may go up Pattaya Tai, some may turn right to Jomtien and some may turn left onto 2nd rd and eventually hit soi 8.    The added bonus is that you miss the congestion at the start of Walking Street.

Hey guys,

I got the first part that they go in circle, and if I remember it goes from Central Pattaya road to beach road to walking street, back to 2nd road and so on and so forth.

However, some go straight at end of walking street, or turn right towards Jontien,

How about going to Soi 6 from 2nd road, a bus change at Central Pattaya Road.

I think the Thai know the answer just by looking at the bus (Soe Writings) but we are Doomed unless someone has the "Code" broken.

Looking forward to some more comments

Thanks

Always a little pot-luck with that one, especially if they're on the move. Some do, some don't.

The stationary ones close to the intersection you describe (diagonally opposite where the Jomtien songtaews wait) usually go all the way to the Dolphin roundabout, or just shy of it, as that's where they kick you off so they can turn down Beach Road and come back and do it all again.

Thanks DC, that's 1/2 explained.

Guess I'll have to figure out the Soi Buakhao bit to Jomtien and the rest

I usually get off right as they hit Tukcom and then try my luck there.

If we meet, I'll take my scribble pad and take notes.

If I don't write it down I'll forget (Age or Lazy Neurons)

Thanks Woof1, for the extra details about this mysterious puzzle. I always use my smart phone GPS while aboard the Songthaew just in case, to prepare me for a jump off to where I know the second leg of the route starts. I tried to befriend a Thai person the last trip to nail this down, but got nowhere.

It is believed the secret to those routes are held dearly in a golden box buried deep under “The Sanctuary of Truth” and it could bring a curse if explained to a farang.

Eh Dr Snake,

I think you nailed it right on the head.

Let's not tell Pharangs, it's so simple, so let's complicate it and not tell them, and if someone figures it out,

we will change it again.

Damn it, I'll make it my mission on this trip to pester every LB I know to explain, take notes, and review what

I learn from a few with the same old ones, and probably start a fight.

Meanwhile by deduction something is got to pop out of the exercise.

I'll share what makes sense then

Stay tuned.
