I am a newbie who will be visiting Thailand for the first time end Oct.  I have looked at various threads regarding Bangkok vs Pattaya and cannot make my mind up as to which location would be best.  I will be in the country for 3 days, so realistically can only do 1 location.  I have been with a few LBs outside of Thailand, but have never experienced the crazy nightlife of the country.  Sole purpose of trip is explore the LB scene in either BKK or Pattaya, but at the lowest cost possible.

So the question of BKK vs Pattaya...please can someone answer the following questions:

How much would you expect to pay for the barfine and how much for a girl for ST and LT services?

Do LBs prey on newbs...I want to know the scene before visiting, so I can prepare myself to try and blend in, not standing out as a newb.  Anyone have any tips?

Is staying in a guest friendly hotel near the area cheaper alternative than using the ST rooms?

I know some of the questions may seem direct, but want to do as much research as possible before booking my hotel.

Thanks

first try to use the search funtion on the forum....please... all of your questions could have been answered there... :)

but to make it quick...choose Pattaya when you only have 3 days,it would be crazy to try reach more...look in the hotel-recomodations for ladyboyfriendly hotels...then put up a post where you tell the other members that you will arrive on X- day...and hear if some of them is up for a beer ;)

try look in the newbie-section...you will find the answer to most of your questions there..... :tada:

A ladyboy is a kind of creature...that makes a txt saying...dont you trust me...and send it to 20 people...

3 days?  I'd stay in BKK to maximize time. It took me 3 days just to get the lay of the land in Pattaya.

Yeah, get a hotel as close as possible, again you'll save time, IMHO.

If you had been to Pattaya before then I would suggest Pattaya. But as veveron rightly said, 3 days is not enough time to get the lay of the land there as the ladyboy bars are spread out.

My advice would also be to take all of your days in Bangkok and stay on or close to Soi4 Sukhumvit Road, so you'll be close to Nana Plaza. No need to over complicate things for that length of stay on your first visit.

In addition to Nana, don't forget to visit both Check-In Bar and Guess Bar too and let us know how you get on  ;)

Other areas you may want to venture into are

Soi Cowboy (See Map) and Darkside Soi 33 (See their site on this forum)

I would stay away from PatPong on first trip unless you find a knowledgeable Wingman

Enjoy LOS

You would need to define "lowest possible cost" - BKK for 3 days having lots of fun - probably 30,000b all in (US$1000).    If you have less, you need to economise more - if you budgeted considerably more - your going to be in paradise.

For 3 days, BKK makes more sense.  Stay in Soi 2/4/6 or 1/3/5/7 and you can walk everywhere.     Hotel can be as low as 800b night or up to 20,000b night.     Food costs typically 40b at streetside place or between 120-400b for a indoor aircon place.    Drinks run typically around 100-150b depending on the venue.  You would need to factor in lady drinks as well - about 120-180 depending on the venue.      if you take a girl out of a bar - factor in the barfine. between 300-600b each time.

Whatever you do in BKK - Visit Cascade - there is nothing like it in the world.

Thank you all very much for the responses...I will research some more on other posts. Will also post an update upon return.  US$1000 sounds around the budget I was expecting, the prior research I have been doing suggested Pattaya would offer more for my money, but given the suggestions above, think I will go with BKK and do my research based on that.

The "which is cheaper" question is definitely debatable. I think Pattaya is a little cheaper overall but personaly I didn't find any extreme differences in prices.

I don't think it is a question of cheaper.

Let's put it this way from my point of view:

- Your $ probably goes Further in Pattaya

- There are more temptations dangling in front of you there

Question is: Self Discipline  i.e. The Young and the old Bull approach

Shall we f%^& them all, Oh No, Lets take our time and do them one at the time

You can do Pattaya for a hell of a lot less than you can do Bangkok. But, if you choose, you can blow as much as you want to in either, up to you. It requires no effort to spend money anywhere, any muppet can do that if they have it.

Pattaya offers far more options and benefits for the money conscious and for those who have time, without denying yourself a single thing.
