Starting charcoal here. Last year I ordered a pig roast for a party and it arrived and they lit the charcoal while piggy is suspended over the charcoal. How did they start the charcoal? With pieces of what appeared (and smelled) like inner tubes! WTF - that's carcinogenic. Needless to say, I stayed with the other offerings - sorry Mr. Pig, no disrespect. And this week, we got a small charcoal grille and what does the lady use to start it? Plastic bags, sorry, no eat! I will cook a burger for myself after I start it with newspaper or paper plates! Unbelievable!

An observation...passed a shop called Tevada Tattoo on Buakow (and how many freaking ways are there to spell that Soi?) So being the good student of Thai that I am (and with adult beverages involved), I think I found the disconnect. I think they wanted Nevada, but in their translation saw the 'N' in Nevada and thought it looked like Tor-Tahan (ท) and used that and translated it as a T. Yes, too much time on my hands!

Just to let you know that this isn't done by all Thais - my lb gf and her family start charcoal with charcoal with starting fluid (aka lighter fluid).
