Just wondering if any of the other BMs were impacted by Huricane Sandy? I am in NYC and it was quite a storm. The old joke about why are wives like huricanes has really hit home ( they start out wet and wild blowing you eveywhere and leave with the house and the car). I just got my utilities back on this weekend and have about 70K in damages. I am not complaining as so many have really been devistated

It's crazy, Larry. I left NYC to live in this land of earthquakes, volcanoes and typhoons. Back home, all my friends and family were worried about my situation. I've been here almost 18 months, with only one earthquake, with no damage to speak of and only one death. During that time, New York has been hit by damaging hurricanes, terrible snow storms, and even a tornado. During Sandy, my daughter and one of my sons were without power for 6 days. One of my good friends on Long Island lost just about everything. He's right on the water, in Lindenhurst. My older son is here with me for a visit. We left NYC on the 25th of October, just ahead of the storm. He'll be going back on Friday. My younger son is car-sitting for me. I keep up the insurance because I need the car when I visit back there. There were 2 big trees in his backyard. One came down and just missed his car and mine. The other fell the other way, onto his neighbor's house. You just never know.
Actually living the dream.

Well, Sandy did quite a job on the Eastern Seaboard, even as far inland as Canada (Toronto Area) where there were some damages so far inland. That storm didn't loose its strength hitting shores. Lost Power and tree felt on Hidro line here. Took me a week to get power back in (I am in the Country) as by that time our Hydro crews were heading to help the NY Power to restore more urgent needs.
Thanks to my back up generator I did manage. Guess it helps to be somehow prepared (To a Point)
I'll take the HK Typhoons anytime at least HK is more prepared than the Good Old North America with Old Power Grid system and Fragile constructed buildings.

Yeah I still have no electric. I ripped out everthing that got flooded in my house (my entire baement) and had my car towed back to my driveway. 24 hours a day heavy equiptment is rolling through my normally quite neighborhood. Its really is like a war zone. Almost three weeks latter and mountians of debris are still eveywhere even though they get picked up two some times three times a day. Insane, I could never had imagined this in my community. Now that so much of the beach has erodied and the dunes and sea walls are gone any storm even a small one could be real trouble. The next full mommn high tide should be interesting. My goal is just to get my house back to normal so I can head out to LOS this Dec with a clear head

All the Best to you Larry, I went through two of those Hurricanes years ago when in Houston, the Tide is really the devastation. I lives in a Neighborhood some 30 miles away from the Gulf f Mexico, and watched the sewers flowing back into the streets, and water rise. Nothing could be done, I trully sympathise having been there.
Hopwfully lessons will be learned, ie rebuilding in time of Sea walls, and upgrades of the Electrical system.
Even living in Canada years ago we had an Ice storm and were in the dark for weeks where I am now.
Some Modern world we live in.
Sometimes I think, even as I have made fun of the Thsi electrical wiring on poles, they are better prepared than we are in our so said modern world.
Don't let this drag you down OK, look forward to Happier days, and as unfortune as it is, this is So far outside of the Control Box that Hopefully the Powers to be will see the lights and prepare for the next one in better ways.
Keep your Head High. We sent two Bucket trucks and crews from my community who are somewhere in NY State, working 16 hrs days and sleepingin some Fire Station last we heard, Hope it helps.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Things are coming along. I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel for my personal circumstance. My neighborhood is still messed up and that will take time. Some people really got crushed
