Been a few times, most recently tonight and unfortunatley have to give the place a thumbs down.

Having lived in the Phils for many years it still saddens me to say that unless a foreigner/Chinese runs a place it is usually crap.

Makes it even more frustraing as Phils has so many really good LB's but a bit like food, Phils have the ingredients but just dont know how to cook them!

Manila, or anywhere in Phils for that matter, is just crying out for a really well run LB bar giving foreigners/Jajanese/Koreans a place where wed be happy to spend our hard earned.

Whoever gets it right will most certainly make a very good living re having the right type of LB bar.

I don’t think a LB bar in Philippines is going to work in this country with a Christian north and a Muslim south … and to top it off a country full of corruption, and not to mention the lack of respect for alternative lifestyle or any other social styles...

As for Mixed Nuts the prices were so dam high for takeout … not what most of us are used to ..

Coco, I know that you are very knowledgeable about The Philippines and the LB scene, but I have to disagree about a couple of things. Although the Catholic Church pretty much runs things here, and ladyboys and gays will probably never have full civil rights, I find that the attitude towards homosexuals and transgendered people is remarkably tolerant. Even in the small town in which I live, the attitude is very non-homophobic. As far as P4P, Angel and I stayed overnight in Clark when we were going to Thailand and when we returned, and it sure looked like a Sin City to me. Prostitutes plied their trade pretty openly and there seemed to be a P4P bar everywhere I looked. There was even a Walking Street. I do agree with you about the corruption. That might seriously eat in to any profits, and make owning a bar very cost ineffective.

I hope that you and your girlfriend are doing well... I am also pleased and alternative lifestyle is tolerated... In the Philippines...as it should be...Last time I was in Ac … One lb told me they did have a bar close to the Central hotel in a building on the second floor I went to the building and went up and took a look… but I found that it was closed and a Lb just hanging out said she worked there ….but it did not last too long she said the mayor closed them down..

I can’t imagine all the work and money it would take to open a bar in a another country.. Not to mention all the bullshit someone would have to do to start one...

Coco said,

but it did not last too long she said the mayor closed them down..

I wonder if that had to do with payoffs or the lack thereof. I have to agree with you, Coco. A business like that is tough enough under ordinary circumstances. To attempt it in a foreign country could be a nightmare.

Thanks for your good wishes. Yes, Angel and I are doing very well. Her friends and family have accepted me completely, and my golfing buddies really love her. Whenever I'm invited anywhere, they always tell me to make sure to bring her along with me. She's a very likeable person. :D

Last time I was in Mixed Nuts (About 8 weeks ago) they'd added a group of gay dancers to the roster and they spent half the time I was there trying to get me to buy them a drink. (Kept telling them I only go for boys in skirts and dresses!)

The place could be better but the owner their is probably the most antisocial I've ever come across who most of the time sits with his friends and if your lucky gives you a good glare.

I remember the first time I asked the girl who's the asshole in the corner that keeps glaring around and was told oh thats the owner.. lol

This sounds like a good idea, but once again think it would be very difficult but could be done. for me i would prefer to start a comedy bar in Angeles. since majority of the ladyboys are located there and you would never have a shortage of workers.
I have asked about it on my last trip to philippines earlier this year and i was told many different reasons but no one knows for sure. But there are many streetwalkers afterdark but i couldnt find one club. Im sure manila would cost alot more for start up. But i do know people that have retired and moved to phills and have opened a bar and done pretty good. If this was ever to happen it would be something i would be interested in.
