Howdy
I've got a mate's wedding in Indonesia at the end of the month, so I've decided that this trip is a perfect opportunity for me to scratch an itch which has been buggin' me for a while now.
I'm flying into Bangkok this Sunday 25 Mar '12 and staying in Omni Tower for 3 days before I make my way down to south Java. First question - anybody fancy a pint or two with a complete novice on Sunday?
After going to the wedding and then joining them on their honeymoon in Bali for a few days (not my idea), me and another mate (who's also going to the wedding) are flying back to Phuket on Friday 6 April '12 and will be in Patong / Phi Phi for 4 days. Next question - how the hell am I gonna shake my mate who has no idea of my wish to go to C&Ds? Best cunning plan wins a t-shirt!
Me and him are then flying back to Bangkok on Tuesday 10 April and then 2 days later, he buggers off back home to Blighty and I have 5 days that I have not made any plans for. I was thinking Pattaya, but after just seeing it's Songkran down there for all of that period, I'm not too sure what to do and hence my third and final question - what do you guys (who I have never met before) think I should do? Chiang Mai / Koh Samui / Philippines / Bangkok / Pattaya / Phuket / Somewhere else?
Anyways, apologies for the rambling post and thanks in advance for any responses.
Oh I'm Aidan by the way. I like the colour red, I'm a scorpio and I look quite a lot like my dad.

Have you asked your mate if he's curious about LBs? You never know, he might be too nervous to ask you & just needs an excuse to "check them out".
As to how to get rid of him, that's hard to say without knowing something of his personality. Is he an inexperienced traveller who wants his hand held or is he fine with each of you going off to do your own thing. If he's the former then there's no nice way to shake him without lying to him.
Maybe you can help set him up with a girl & wait till they wander off. Then you go to C&Ds but don't answer your phone & tell him the next day you got waylaid by a girl who lived miles away. There's really no formula for deserting him without resorting to subterfuge. But if you don't know when the chance will arise again, it is something you have to do.
He'll get over it, he might blame you for spoiling his night, that's better than you blaming him for spoiling your life.
As for Songkran, why go to somewhere quiet when you'll still get wet anyway? Many people go to Pattaya for Songkran because they love the atmosphere. Dress appropriately, leave your phone & camera in your room & you'll find Pattaya a lot of fun. The girls get right into it.
Can you make the T-shirt XL, I'll leave the design to you.

Gentlemen, in appreciation of your responses, I doth my cap to all of thee.
Na, I haven't asked him and as I live in a small town with the obligatory small minds, I don't think I'm gonna bother to either. Just gonna follow Kliome's advice and play it by ear methinks and considering Lee (the mate) is a bit of a shagger, hopefully he'll be off getting his end away pretty quickly, leaving me to go about my business. If not, it's not as if I cant keep myself content with GGs whilst spending my time with.
Anyway, as it appears that Phuket's gonna be closed for the vast majority of time that I'm there (election and the Royal funeral), I think I'll just bum off to Phi Phi island for 3 of the 4 days. That means that unless I make it to C&Ds on the 6th, it'll just have to wait until next time....bit of a bugger, but hopefully won't spoil my life!
Yes mate, I shall drag him to Nana and see what he thinks of those such places.....I'll sell it to him with the whole "when in Rome" spiel and it'll be interesting to see how he reacts. Thankfully, I'll have already experienced it and will have a tiny grasp of the place by then. Again due to the (what I consider to be a weirdly delayed) burial of the Princess, it seems that Bangkok's bars are gonna be closed when we arrive. Any ideas whether they'll open at middnight, or will Lee have to wait until the next day to be able to sample the offerings of Bangkok's bars?
Seeing as two of you are both are 100% agreed, when I get home from footy tonight, I shall be booking a hotel, working out travel plans and making a plan for the 1st day / night in Pattaya.
