Goodbye 0 posts and hello forum!

I am new here and wanted to quickly say hi before I go wandering around the forum for interesting reads.

My name is Charly, I live in the UK and sorely miss the wonderful destination of Thailand. I have been 3 times, each to BKK and Koh Samui. I was last there when I was 24... I think? I'm twenty nine already and have now made it my mission live in Thailand. I'm gonna do a degree and then try for a job out there, or something. Any emigration tips would be most welcome. Its a long term plan, no rush. :)

I like many things, history, the internet, films, music but most of all I enjoy travelling and encountering new cultures, odd traditions, etc.

Currently my plan to visit Thailand for a holiday in September is getting NOWHERE, but if I can not be there in person, I shall have to settle for being there virtually, thanks internet!

Regarding ladyboys/transexuals, they are the best! I have had holiday romances with ladyboys before, perhaps one day a more serious relationship will happen but right now I quite enjoy being the 'butterfly,' as I was named out there. (I am aware that is not a compliment, like I first thought, haha!)

Anyway, HELLO!

Hello Charly

Welcome to the active part of the forum. Took me years to get started but a great source of help, inspiration, support and fun.

I have just beaten you and moved here from the UK in early part of this year but rather than being the completely free butterfly am here with my farang wife (D'oh!). Still get out to play every so often and am living right in the heart of the nonsense in BKK close to Nana BTS.

If you do find yourself out here and want a wingman (no reason you should from your previous experiences) happy to catch up when you're in BKK.

Welcome and enjoy all the great knowledge here.

See you in BKK sometime.

Cheers

SG

Hi Charly,

I'm certainly not trying to put a damper on your plans but I hope you've had a good read of the various threads regarding living full time in LOS. The issue is for some people that once living in LOS full time the whole "euphoric" shall we say, experience they found while vacationing in LOS disappears, and the income they hoped for turns out to be far less. The general opinion is to live and earn in your home country (or elsewhere if there's a decent dollar to be made) and spend it in Thailand on vacation.

Don't take this as advice but keep an open mind as you may get over there and discover that you've really made a backward move.

Up to you as they say.

Charly

LB3048 is very right. I rather jumped straight into "yeah, lets party..." response.

The idea of transitioning from holiday feeling to living routine needs to have things lined up or expectations well managed by the time you think of what to do.

Do a lot of forum reading both here and more mainstream forums and listen to the wisdom. Doesn't mean to say you can't make it work but failing to prepare (on all fronts) is the killer.

Try and get a job with a big international firm and have them transfer you... easiest way in my mind.

Either way, good luck.

As already stated the hope will still be to see you in BKK.

Cheers

SG

Thanks for the advice guys! Good tips. I agree earning your wage in your home country would be best. Earn at home, spend abroad!! I do have a long term plan in place that will allow myself to travel whilst earning money with my native currency, the pound.

Also, it took me sometime to reply here as my browser kept telling me this site had malicious viruses. Now it is fine, but was my browser correct or just being fussy?

EDIT: Found an answer to my question onsite regarding the virus/malware concern of mine. All is fine :)

What works well for a few punters is if they end up working for a multi-national company with operations on LOS (or other ladyboy rich areas) and get a a transfer or regular trips there. If you could make that work you'd  be on same money as your regular position at home, or possibly even more while you work in LOS. Usually transfers are short termers because the corporations typically want a local person who would be a cheaper option that an import.

Another alternative is if you can raise enough money is to buy or start a business in LOS, maybe something in the tourism industry. I really don't like your chances of finding a well paid, long term job when there are literally thousands of equally qualified locals who don't need a visa to work and can do it a the local labor rate.
