Hi Folks, being a newbi here, I am just wondering, whether there is any action from police / government known against people who are hiring escorts --- I just got ripped off and I am know a little bit cautious and want to avoid any pitfalls. Best, Tom

Prostitution is technically illegal in Thailand however it is widely tolerated.

Forget about escorts, read the forum and get to understand the bars and other places to meet ladyboys.

Some golden rules when you hire an escort or barfine a girl...

* Know/Agree the amount upfront
* If you have specialist requests - dont be disappointed after the fact that she won't perform them... agree it upfront.
* Only take that amount - plus a little extra if you need to tip her or ask her to stay longer etc.
* Have your taxi fare home hidden in your shoe
* Never have credit cards etc in the room
* Never leave baggage tags on show - as they may have your home address or telephone number
* Always ensure the hotel security have booked the guest in (preferably holding their ID card until they leave... and they should phone you to ensure everything is in order before they hand the ID card back).
* Know and understand the timings beforehand.
* Never get into an arguement with the girl in the room.
* Any problems - phone security (so know their number beforehand)... but do it pleasantly so she doesnt erupt in the room.
* Don't take a girl home if your drunk - you're wasting your own money as all the girls know that its likely performance is inhibited and you'll flake out... and that gives them the opportunity to riffle the room.
* Never leave the money in the open area when you go in for a shower... take it in with you rapped up with the towel.
* Ensure no valueables are on show or accessible when you are in the shower.
* Be wary encase they drug your drink - or anyone else does for that matter. Keep your drink covered - I typically sit with my hand over the top of the glass - it sounds paranoid but it gets to be a habit after a while and is not an issue.
* Ensure the girl does not take any narcotics back to your room... ask to see her purse to confirm.
* Whether you intend to every book the girl again or not - give the impression you enjoyed it (even if it was rubbish)... and that you will phone them again... take their number... and then say goodbye. You do not get your money back for a bad service - put it down to experience.
* Never steal from the girls
* Never short change the girls
* Their Taxi home should not be in excess of 120 baht - so dont be a mug and give them 100's of bahts taxi home. And likely hood is that they will take a motor bike taxi which could be cheaper still.
* Fold your clothes neatly in a pile - encase there's any problems you can grab and run.
* Trust your own instincts... if something doesnt sound right - it probably isnt.
I spent a lot of money on LB's in Nana Plaza, Patpong and Pattaya. The rest of the cash, I just squandered

Great tips Brit.

Another thing that I keep an Eye on is age. It has never been a big issue but I always ask to take a look at a girls ID if she looks particularly young. I always get the thai dates confused but fortunatly the new IDS have westernised dates added. I know that it's the responsibility of teh bar/go-go or agency to check their ideas before they hire them but that is a joke.

Prositution is estremely well tolerated, more so than in countries where prostitution is legal, if that makes sense.

The main thing Thai law comes down extremely hard on is drug use. There's no point going into all the different drug laws, but most of them seem to be completely harsh and unforgiving for even the smallest offense. I know of one friend who was caught a joint in Krabi and was put in the local cells for 4 days, then transported to holding cells in BKK for 10 dyas before being deported, but all the while no one would tell him how long he was being held for which on top of the aweful conditions can be harrowing experience. And there are plenty of horror stories worse than that one.

I suggest avoiding all drugs of that type. Stick to your alcohol.
