I wouldn't spend too much time on Thai Friendly in the months before a trip.

Because once you get on the ground in Thailand, your plans and options will be so much different.

You'll invariably get a ladyboy mad at you when you decide to blow her off because you found another one.

Thai Friendly, Tinder and Line are very useful once you are in country.

are the lbs on bangla road worth a punt?

There are numerous freelancers working on Bangla Road. Most of them are hardened pros so you have to clearly negotiate what you want. They'll usually demand payment upfront and also try to finish as quickly as possible so they can look for another customer.

If it is your first time and you are not confident, it would be easier to try the ex-C&D staff working at Navy Bar on Soi Seadragon, and of course Tootsies Massage.

Check out this pinned thread: Common Questions and Answers

If you don't want to use your expensive home phone in Thailand, you can buy a 2nd hand smart phone at MBK (Mahboonkrong) Mall in Bangkok - easy to find as it is almost at one end of a Skytrain Line. In Pattaya, you can go to Tukcom - not as big as MBK, but still a wide selection of used phones as well. You are probably looking at close to 1000 Baht for a reasonable used smart phone (around $30 USD). The other advantage of this is that if you lose it, it won't be a big loss - however the contacts on the sim card might be something you want to keep, so you might want to back those up.  If you have a Google account, you can back them up there and they will be restored to your Android phone when you sync. You can also get specific sim card readers and back up the information to your computer/laptop.

Having checked the Jung Ceylon store directory it does not seem they have a used mobile shop in the mall. I would suggest you ask a local. There will be likely some 2nd hand mobile shops around, but not on the same scale as MBK (they have 1 entire floor dedicated to mobile phones and a large section of that is for used ones), and TukCom in Pattaya.

I think buying a True Move or AIS SIM card for your existing smart phone is a cheaper option.

You can do that at a kiosk before you leave the airport too.

However, you have to make sure your phone is unlocked before you travel. If you bought the phone from a carrier like AT&T in your home country, you might have a locked version.

ya if you are able to hold on to a phone in your home country thailand isnt dangerous enough that you need to have a cheap phone to use incase someone steals it.... just try to limit the use when walking on the street but even then you will be fine
