I've always been lucky in LOS (touch wood). I've only ever caught an STD once in LOS and that was with a GG in Soi 6.. Lesson learned..

I caught more STDs in my teens and early 20's messing around and picking up girls in the UK and Spain, those vaginas can be a nasty hive of disease.

Say what you will about the Thais and condom use, but they are generally very clean people. Some of them grew up in tin shacks, and even still sleep in tiny bed sits with 5 other galee, with no running hot water and 2 pairs of shared flip flops between them, and yet they will still shower 3 times a day, and have respect in looking and smelling nice, some of them will probably spend more money on creams, powders and washing products then on their room and food for the month. As soon as they are back in the room they will take advantage of a good shower and a nice bar of soap, and always douche out their ass before sex.

I caught syphilis, probably from a bareback effort with a Cambodian gg, two trips ago. That is the only STD I have picked up in 10 mongering trips to SE Asia. I went bareback many times on my first couple of trips but I rarely do now. I always get an STD check between trips.

In the early days got warts in Jahore Road in Singapore, and in Manilla in early 80's. Since then nothing else. I do take particular attention to warts from those early experiences and am stunned how many LB/GG have them. Especially around the arse cheeks where they cant see.

Bringing something home that requires a visit to the GUM clinic is a rite of passage.

You can wear as many condoms as you like but that won't guarantee that you remain problem-free. The only way to do that is not to go in the first place and remain a celibate recluse, but even cyber-sex has it's pitfalls.

It's been a while since I've donned rubber, I even discarded some UK johnny's recently that had passed their expiry date.

Of course I do not condone entering into battle sans rubber, but I'd become less of a common or garden mongerer some years ago already having chosen to drift into the slow lane and watch the youngsters do all the over-taking.

I prefer the less-hassled and ultimately more rewarding one girl mode, there are many advantages of this modus operandi that rarely get covered due to the general preference for mongering stories and the believed status that goes with it.
