So if it's such an interesting place for lbs, why is there such a lack of information on all the major ladyboy forums?

 

Yes, there are lbs in Jakarta, but it is nothing like what you can find in Bangkok. Also the police are far more strict towards lbs "escorting" or "streetwalking" so that makes it difficult as well.

 

Since you say it is such an interesting town for lbs, why don't you post something? Over 90% of your posts are asking for information, very few of your posts give information.

Well, Jakarta (and elsewhere here in Indonesia – especially Bali) is interesting enough in regards to ladyboys – however, not at all comparable with for example Bangkok. There are no ladyboy-bars/clubs per se – but you can find them – primarily in gay-clubs doing cabaret-performances and such. The most common way to meet ladyboys in Jakarta is probably the usual internet-sites where many now have profiles.

 

Bear in mind that Indonesia is estimated to have one of the largest trans-populations in the world (it’s the world’s fourth-largest nation in population), so oh yes – they are here :-) Actually, in spite of the fact that Indonesia is a muslim country, Jakarta has a highly pulsating nightlife – nonetheless, religion and transsexuality have never been an easy match. The same can probably be said about Philippines.

 

So, if planning a trip to Jakarta I suggest having a look at aforesaid internet-sites in advance.

People here don’t really ponder things about trans-reality, and I guess that is understandable, but being a trans-woman in Indonesia is probably more challenging than being the same in Thailand – and maybe even Philippines, even though the jury is still out on that one – the nasty religion comes into play here... And then again... what is trans-reality? How many Thai-trannies end up with masters degrees? How many get a successful secretarial position?

 

Not that many, unfortunately.

 

But still and for sure, transsexual life is apparently more open and superficially accepted in Thailand. However, knowing both Indonesian, Philippine and Thai transsexuals as good friends (and let’s throw in a few from elsewhere in the region); I cannot say that the difference is necessarily THAT huge.

 

BEING TRANSSEXUAL IS FILLED WITH ADVERSITY NO MATTER FUCKING WHERE...

 

And unfortunately that is the fact. Jane, a good transsexual friend of mine, is currently preparing for her masters degree finding out a bit more about this, though, so hopefully we will have some answers in a couple of years. This is a totally understudied area – an area that needs focus to enhance the quality of life among a large number of trans-people in this region.

 

What is my point here? Well, except from the obvious it still is that Jakarta is not Bangkok – and I wouldn’t ever wish it to be. But I for sure dream of a more accepting world that can even begin to accept trans-women as humans and not just bloody sex-objects. Oh well... oh well, I've probably been worse than most of you anyway in much more sinister ways than just banging some hookers... but I repend - I'm still right! Being transsexual is full of pain, unfulfilment, frustration, beauty (for sure), superficiality (how else can you survive?)... but the frustration and the lack of a goal is the worst. But how can you have a goal in a society that rather saw you dead?

 

THAT is trans-reality bloody everywhere...
