Hmmm...I believe I said just that jonnieb

Then I did the math and realized that getting a few baht better rate is only just a few pennies US, so unless you are exchanging a large amount it really doesn't make a big difference. Just go to the nearest, most convenient booth and make your exchange, You will save money buy taking cash with you as most, if not all, booths and ATMS will charge you a service fee to use a card.

. The difference between exchange booths along beach road can be significant. It's all very we'll saying it's only a few baht, but not everyone is on the same budget whilst mongering so every satang counts , especially with the exchange rate being shit for so long so now that it's at a reasonable rate, I will certainly be making hay when the sun shines.
This might sound that I'm being as tight as a ducks arse, but I always get a motor bike taxi, as the baht buses crawl along beach road at 7/8 pm, and as soon as I see a exchange booth with the best rate I tell the driver to stop for a wee minute then change my money, then just hope back on the moped to my chosen destination.
I used to change large amounts, then head back to the hotel safe, but rather than that I just change what I need for the day/night. As say you were to change for example 500 sterling, then some how lose it en route to the hotel safe. It would put a major downer on the rest of your trip.

Nature of my work to check the spread, but most of the time I just used a debit card that refunded all fees and wasn't too concerned with the rate. When it came to changing whichever offered the best rate one day seemed to stay close to the best going forward.

Forums over the years have recommended Rungland for haggling, and they did have a better set up if you're bring in larger amounts. Better than standing out in the open at a stall.  They wouldn't budge much though so I never went back and just had to piece it out over the next few days which worked out better because the run kept going.
