Great report Dixon - tried to find booking place for Paragon Hotel - any ideas???

Hi Patrick, I stayed at the Paragon 5 years ago and it was OK.  They dont have much of a web presence though.

A two minute walk from the Paragon is the Monsoon Boutique Hotel which although a higher class of hotel is only about 5 USD more expensive.

I do want to point out that due to poor governemnetal infrastructure that more than half of the bargirls don't have IDs.  Not really a big deal for GGs because they will borrow their friends but a bit problematic for ladyboys who are borrowing a friends ID.

Sundance Hotel has no ID check. It;s about a 10 minute walk from the Street 136 bar area but only a 5 minute walk from the Street 51 bar area.

Other hotels in the Street 104-Street 136 bar area that frinds liked are the Golden House and 108 Boutique Hotel.  These hotels are more pricey.

More info and pics about these 4 hotels and others are located here:    Phnom Penh Hotel Pics and Info

Enjoy Phnom Penh!  There are some very sweet ladyboys there.

well, one bowl of soup is offal. Typical, internal organ crap. Bits n pieces. Ok, but Cambodia does not know about seasoning yet. No basil, other herbs, or even very much garlic. Flavorless to me actually. I TAKE seasonings with me. I found some dim sum buns but tho they were nice in the sausage, hard boiled egg way (50 cents each), they had an unescapable flavor or formaldahyde or SOMETHING unnatural. Baguettes are great, cheap but fresh? forget it, total luck if you get em that way. DO NOT buy em from someone set up on the street with the sun beatin on em. Even at the bakery I did not get really fresh. Found on shop that seemed to get em fresh and mostly went there. This would be a place where you did better cooking at home as opposed to Thailand where it's MUCH better to buy food out. But ok, tho I think I cook better.

that's all u ever hear about Cambodia, the food sucks. ill be learning this in about 100 days from now when I do my visa run.

Thailand  has the best food on the planet, a vegan, a veggie and a meat eater can all sit down and be impressed at most resturants.

u said that u at a soup and it was foul, I was thinking galangal, that would be my guess.

if your not used to it then chemical taste would come to mind, I personally like ginger root fresh and raw, but if gave me ginger juice and told me it was apple id swear it was bleach mixed with poison, and ginger is way tastier then galangal imo.

This is by far the best trip report I have ever read.

Excellent writing.

Artful photography.

Quite informative and educational.

You should write an e-book, Mr. Cox.
